Job Description
We are a highly successful UK-based Fintech Software vendor embarking on an exciting growth journey after significant recent investment in new products and people.
Over the next 12 months, the business will grow headcount and revenues significantly as our new flagship Enterprise SaaS platform releases a unique proposition in the market.
The Database Administrator Role:
We have several database systems within our business which you would be responsible for. This is a hands-on role, and we are looking for someone who can work on their own initiative, take responsibility for, and significantly improve the performance of our database estate.
This is a high-profile role within the company. While this is a hands-on role you will be expected to work and communicate effectively with stakeholders across all levels both internally and with our customers. You would become the authority on all matters relating to databases within the organisation.
Responsibilities

+ Taking responsibility for the day to day running, performance and cost of all databases within the company.
+ Taking ownership of all queries used within the applications and ensuring that they are fully optimised and as efficient as possible.
+ Developing suitable monitoring and reporting tools to identify any issues occurring within the databases as quickly as possible and working with our development teams to fix issues.
+ Optimising and improving the performance of the database systems
+ Cost control on our AWS databases.
+ Ensuring that the databases are secure and resilient.
+ You will be responsible for the backup and restore processes and disaster recovery planning for all our databases.
Background, Skills & Experience

+ Several years hands on experience as a MySQL DBA.
+ Experience working with MySQL5.5+
+ Good experience of both performance tuning and query optimisation within MySQL both on prem and in AWS.
+ Several years hands on experience working with AWS Aurora databases, both Server and Serverless.
+ Experience of cost control of databases within AWS.
+ Experience of data flows and data ingestion processes at a large scale.
+ Experience of database security, encryption, handling PII data.
+ Working with all levels of business stakeholders both internal and external to the business.
+ Experience in backup and restore processes and disaster recovery planning.
+ Experience of migrating databases from older Legacy versions to new versions.The following skills would be advantageous:
+ Some knowledge of PHP
+ Knowledge of IP Networking.
+ Some knowledge of Python
